Seeing this, Philip clutched his chest and nearly fell back, and Diana and Edward hurried forward to steady him.

Edward shot Edwin a disapproving look.

“Edwin, what nonsense are you causing again? Hurry up and apologize to Dad.”

But Edwin had no intention of apologizing. “Enough, brother, stop pretending to be the good son. Dad’s fine. He’s tougher than I am. Nothing’s going to happen to him.”

He refused to believe there was anything wrong with Philip’s health. Even with so many eyes on him, Edwin still acted as he pleased.

Aurora arched a brow, finding it odd.

Why was this man so stubborn?

Lucas leaned close and murmured, “My uncle’s always like this. Stay away from him. I think there’s something off about him, and I don’t want him clashing with you.‘

“It’s fine, you don’t need to worry,” Aurora said with a half–smile. Did Lucas really think she was as fragile as glass? She was a living person, with her own mind.

“I can’t shake the feeling he came here with an agenda. Better to keep your distance,” Lucas said, his brows drawn tight.

It was a man’s intuition, but he couldn’t ignore it–the way Edwin’s eyes kept sliding toward Aurora set every alarm bell ringing in his head.

Aurora, however, thought Lucas was overreacting.

Nothing could possibly happen here, not at a family banquet with so many people watching. Besides, she had only met the man once. Whatever he might have in mind, he wouldn’t act on it the very first time they crossed paths.

To her, Lucas was just far too on edge.

“Edwin, stop making trouble,” Diana added firmly, her gaze sharp on him.

“Your father’s not young anymore. His body can’t take if you kept pushing him like this. No matter how strong he looks, repeated bursts of anger will wear him down.”

Her words were earnest, almost pleading.

The other guests exchanged uneasy glances.

Though it was a family banquet, most of them rarely saw Edwin. They hadn’t expected him to behave this way, arguing so bluntly with Philip, nearly angering him into collapse. Even if he meant it as a joke, no one found it funny. After all, a real joke only worked if both sides laughed. With someone like Edwin, this was a first for them.
