“Are you working abroad right now, Elvis?”

I’ve got a few days off, so I was about to head home.” The mention of Elsie Archer made Elvis’s voice light up, and he momentarily forgot Evadne’s own recent heartbreak. “What should I get for Ellie? She never lets me spoil her, and she’s not interested in any of that luxury stuff women usually like. I’m racking my brain here! I can’t go back empty-handed.”

Evadne gave a wry smile. “Elvis, it’s not that she doesn’t like those things. It’s that she’s so grateful just to be with you that she feels almost unworthy. She doesn’t dare ask for anything.”
