"I had someone check the employee records from the orphanage before the fire. I found the old cafeteria cook, and she knew where Susanna went. Clayton's gaze remained fixed on her. "And?"

"And she changed her name. She's now called Candice Dulce." Jade pulled a file from her bag and handed it to him.

This was her and Natalia's plan: tie Clayton up with an imposter, no matter what.

"Candice," Clayton murmured, looking at the girl in the photograph. "I'll have this verified."

"Don't forget what you promised me," Jade said eagerly.

Clayton nodded. "Rest assured, if this is truly the person I'm looking for, I will grant your request."

A triumphant smile spread across Jade's face as she stood up. "Then I'll be waiting for your good news."

She was confident. The couple who had adopted Susanna were long dead. After their deaths, rumor had it their adopted daughter was sent to live with her uncle—Candice's father. All the pieces fit. As long as Candice could vaguely recall her experiences at the orphanage, she would surely fool Clayton.
