Dennis sounded so convincing that Dylan was silent for a long moment.

“Is this true?” he finally asked.

Dennis hesitated. “I’d say there’s a ninety percent chance, unless Mrs. Austin was with you last night, sir?”

Dylan frowned. Of course, Rebecca hadn’t been with him last night. So Dennis was saying she’d cheated on him...

He hadn’t expected Rebecca to have such nerve.

Seeing Mr. Austin’s silence, Dennis felt his suspicions were confirmed. A complicated look flashed in his eyes—part sympathy for Dylan, part anger at Mrs. Austin’s behavior.

Dennis ventured another question. “Mr. Austin, how should we handle this? Do we just pretend we don’t know, or...?”

Dylan rubbed his temples and spoke slowly. “Let’s just pretend we don’t know.”

What?

Dennis stared at him in disbelief, completely stunned.

The boss was just going to ignore it?

In his mind, Mr. Austin had always been decisive, never one to back down or tolerate nonsense. Why would he choose to endure something like this?

Dennis couldn’t help but wonder: Has the boss gotten so used to being cheated on that he can even put up with this?

But he didn’t dare say another word. Mr. Austin had made his decision, so all Dennis could do was answer respectfully, “Understood, sir. As you wish.”

Dylan hung up and leaned back against the headboard, lost in thought.

Rebecca’s affair had caught him off guard, but then again, theirs was a marriage of convenience—she had every right to seek out her own happiness.

Still, they were legally married. Her behavior had definitely crossed a line...

He needed to warn her.

With that, Dylan picked up his phone and sent Rebecca a message: Have your fun, but remember your place. You’re still Mrs. Austin, at least in name. Don’t make a scene, or you’ll have to deal with the fallout.

Ah, so that was the issue—she was late.

Rebecca thought to herself, He’s lucky I showed up at all. Of course, she didn’t say that out loud. Truth was, she’d taken her time with breakfast, made sure all four kids got off to school, and only then headed over.

“It’s early morning, most shops aren’t even open yet. I had to try a bunch of places before I found anything.” She sighed. She really had gone through a lot of trouble to get those clothes.

Dylan eyed the athletic wear she’d brought, his expression darkening. So after all that effort, this was what she’d bought?

He looked clearly disappointed.

“Come in,” he said, his voice a little rough as he turned and walked back into the room.

Rebecca followed, set the clothes down, and assumed she was free to leave.

But Dylan told her to wait. With that, he grabbed the clothes and disappeared into the bathroom.

Rebecca stood in the room, bored out of her mind, waiting for him.
