Katherine let out a dismissive huff and took her seat.

Gina and Sean’s expressions soured. They had no idea what had gotten into Katherine, but with Dylan Austin sitting right there, there was no way they’d let her embarrass them in front of such an important guest.

They scrambled to smooth things over.

Sean forced a smile as he turned to Dylan. “Mr. Austin, please don’t mind her. This is the Foster family’s daughter, my son’s fiancée. Katherine’s not feeling well today—her mood’s a bit off.”

Gina nodded quickly, adding, “Yes, Mr. Austin, Katherine isn’t usually like this. I think she’s just a little nervous meeting you.”

Just as Katherine opened her mouth to retort, Gina quickly reached under the table and squeezed her hand, hissing, “Katherine, whatever you have to say, save it for later. Mr. Austin is here—keep quiet.”

Mrs. Brown rarely ever snapped at her like that. Katherine’s eyes stung with indignation, tears threatening to fall.

She muttered bitterly, “She’s Rebecca. She’s only back because she’s up to something.”

Gina frowned. “So what if she’s Rebecca? Why do you care? She’s the one who hurt Alan in the first place—he’s done with her for good.”

With Gina’s words, Katherine finally felt a little reassured.

Gina could never forgive Rebecca for betraying Alan, either. In fact, it was Gina who’d insisted on breaking off the engagement. As long as Gina was on her side, Katherine didn’t have to worry about Rebecca trying to win Alan back.
