Just then, Katherine swept into the room. Hearing Alan defend Rebecca so fiercely, she couldn’t hold back. “Oh, come on! Why not? She’s exactly the type—reckless and unfaithful. Alan, wake up! Stop letting her fool you!”

Alan fell silent for a moment.

In a way, Katherine had a point. Rebecca was fickle—she didn’t love him. She’d fallen for someone else.

A flicker of pain crossed Alan’s eyes. He just couldn’t understand how Rebecca’s heart could change so suddenly.

“Alan, there are plenty of good women out there. You don’t have to hang yourself over that crooked tree,” Katherine pressed on, trying to convince him to give up on Rebecca and choose her instead.

“Enough. Stop it,” Alan said flatly, his tone as cold as ice.

He was tired of Katherine’s persistence, but he couldn’t reject her outright—not with the business ties between their families.

Right now, Rebecca was all he could think about. He didn’t have the patience to deal with Katherine, so he turned on his heel and walked out.

Katherine’s face darkened, a surge of panic rising inside her.

Without missing a beat, she whipped out her phone and dialed a number. “Mom, Rebecca’s back.”

Jane was caught off guard. “She’s back? Why?”

Katherine replied, “Mom, I just know she’s up to no good. She’s going to fight me for Alan.”

Jane tried to calm her. “Kathy, don’t worry. I’ll take care of it. Alan is yours—she can’t take him from you.”
