It felt like swallowing poison.
Evelina glanced at Lemira, her voice thick with tears, “Is it enough now?”
Lemira gave a cold chuckle as she looked at the "two-faced" girl, “I hope you won’t do something like this again, or karma will come back to bite you.”
This was what you’d call hoisting your own petard.
Earlier, right in front of everyone, Evelina had deliberately picked something up off the ground and forced it on Lemira.
Now the boomerang had swung back.
Mrs. Amanda watched Lemira, her tone gentle, “As long as you're alright, that's all that matters. The last time we met, I could tell you were a good kid.”
Asher was taken aback and asked, “Lemira, have you met Mrs. Amanda before?”
Otherwise, why would Mrs. Amanda be so protective of Lemira over just this incident?
Lemira looked over, “Last time, when I was in the hospital after Caspian's incident, I met Mrs. Amanda there.”
“Yes, and Lemira helped me out at the hospital too.”
Mrs. Amanda turned to Asher, “I hope you’ll be fair with everyone. I really get along with Lemira, and if I hear she’s being mistreated in the Langston family, I’ll definitely step in.”
Lemira was surprised by how much Mrs. Amanda stood up for her.
Asher was even more surprised, but he quickly replied politely, “Rest assured, Mrs. Amanda, Lemira is my only sister, and I’ll make sure she’s treated well. Everything before was just a misunderstanding; we've all made peace, right, Lemira?”
Lemira nodded towards Mrs. Amanda, “Thank you for coming to today’s event. I’ll remember your kindness.”
Mrs. Amanda patted Lemira’s hand, “We’ll head out for today. Let’s plan an afternoon tea together soon. Let’s exchange contacts.”
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Lemira pulled out her phone and exchanged contact info with Mrs. Amanda.
Only then did Mrs. Amanda leave.
Mrs. Grace Draven gave Lemira an incredulous look, wondering if Mrs. Amanda wasn’t being overly kind to this girl. Something about it felt off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
After the two ladies left, a figure peeked out, immediately dialing Orion’s number, “Bro, Mom's gone.”
“I saw.”
Orion had just arrived, having only heard from Matthew that Mrs. Amanda was attending a charity event.
After the two ladies left, Evelina had rushed to the lounge to vomit and rinse her mouth.
Red-eyed, Evelina emerged, “Asher, what happened just now was clearly Mrs. Grace Draven’s doing, nothing to do with me.”
She was nearly fuming.
“Eve, Asher knows you've been wronged. What do you want as compensation?”
Asher knew the real deal, but he couldn’t possibly have Mrs. Grace Draven take the fall, so Evelina had to bear the brunt.
Evelina’s eyes darted around, “Asher, I organized this event, so can I handle the allocation of the donations? I’d like to make a good impression on Mrs. Grace Draven.”
Her pride might have taken a hit, but she wasn’t about to lose the chance at handling over a hundred thousand dollars in donations!
Lucian immediately objected, “No way! That’s not right.”
“Why not? I think it’s fine.”
Asher turned to Lemira, “Eve took the fall for you; you should let her have this.”
Lemira’s lips curled into a cold smile, “Get lost!”
