Lemira felt a flicker of satisfaction as she watched Asher's expression darken.

It seemed she had guessed right.

Back in the day, Asher had shirked responsibility for Evander's injury by conveniently ignoring her calls.

Even though Alaric had exposed him, Asher's stubborn nature would never let him admit it.

Now, if he wanted her to back off for Evander's sake, to let Evelina go, surely Asher should make some sacrifices too.

Asher swallowed his frustration. "Lemira, it’s been years. Is it really necessary to keep bringing this up? I can offer you something else as compensation."

"I don’t need any other compensation."

Lemira spoke with an edge in her voice. "Mr. Asher, you always said we’re all part of the Langstons. Sacrificing a bit for family is no big deal, right? Well, now it’s your turn."

He had been so eloquent when pushing her to make sacrifices. Now, she was curious to see if Asher could live up to his own grand words.

Asher's grip tightened on his chair. "Haven't I sacrificed enough for the Langston family?"

"Well, that's what you were supposed to do," Lemira retorted. "Besides, Evelina’s father has done a lot for the family. Sacrificing a little is nothing, right? You said it yourself, we should repay our debts."

Asher almost choked on his own fury. He had indeed said those things but never intended to apply them to himself.

Lemira's smile was tinged with mockery. "That's my condition. Before the police officially investigate, you’d better give me an answer."

With that, she turned on her heel and got into her car, leaving Asher fuming and cursing as he watched her drive away.

He was seething. "I just don’t get it. Is Lemira really my sister? Why does she always make things so difficult for me?"

Hogan, sitting in the front seat, turned around. "Boss, it wasn't Ms. Langston who caused the trouble, but she’s the one who always has to give in. Anyone would be upset."

Hogan had been assigned to keep an eye on Asher, ensuring he didn't do anything harmful to Lemira.

Asher fell silent.

Hogan continued, "Boss, since Ms. Langston is your real sister, it seems a bit odd how you treat Evelina."
