Upon arriving at the company, Frank headed straight for his top-floor office.

When he walked in, Rowan was standing by the window, looking out over the city streets.

Frank only made it as far as the sofa before stopping in his tracks. "You needed to see me?"

Hearing his voice, Rowan turned around slowly, his dark eyes unreadable.

He stared at Frank for a long moment before finally speaking. "Do you remember the first time you met Elissa?"

On the drive over, Frank had mentally prepared for a dozen different conversations or confrontations with Rowan.

But he certainly hadn't expected this question.

He was briefly caught off guard.

The first time he met Elissa...

Setting aside the car accident from years ago, Frank honestly couldn't quite remember.

Back then, he had only seen Elissa as a friend's younger sister.

It wasn't something he would deliberately commit to memory.

All he remembered was that every time they met, little Elissa would smile brightly and call his name.

Her eyes would crinkle into crescents, and deep dimples would frame her smile.

She had been incredibly sweet and obedient.

Snapping back to the present, Frank's expression remained neutral. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

"Out of all our friends, you were the one she trusted the most."

Rowan rolled an unlit cigarette between his fingers. "From the very first time you met, she practically worshipped you."

"Later, when she wanted to leave the Murphy family and find a safe haven, you were the first person she thought of."

Rowan let out a low, humorless laugh. "You probably didn't know this, but when Jacqueline was poisoned this time, she believed in you too."

Frank stiffened slightly before responding with forced calm. "Rowan, this isn't your style."

Rowan raised a brow. "What isn't?"

"Playing the emotional card. It's not like you."

Frank cut straight to the point, a hint of chill settling over his features.

Rowan snapped the cigarette in half, tossed it into the nearby trash can, and scoffed. "Do you want her to see this pathetic side of you?"

"Do you want her to know that the man she trusted so much was the one who poisoned the person closest to her?"

A fleeting moment of hesitation flickered in Frank's eyes before his expression smoothed over. "Believe what you want, but I didn't poison anyone."
