Malric's expression changed.
It lasted only a moment.
Then he forced it back under control.
"I do not know what you are talking about."
Jared watched him quietly.
After a few seconds, he said, "Then you do not know enough. Call someone who does. Have the ridge lord come out."
Malric's face darkened.
"You are only Golden Immortal Level One. What gives you the right to demand a meeting with our ridge lord?"
Jared smiled faintly.
"Then let me ask another way."
His voice remained calm. "I will show you whether I have that right."
He glanced at Master Veridian.
Master Veridian immediately understood.
The old man stepped forward with a grin.
Then his aura erupted.
Peak Golden Immortal Level Eight pressure descended like a mountain.
Malric and the guards were crushed beneath it in an instant.
Malric's body shook.
His knees bent, and he almost dropped to the ground.
His gloomy face turned deathly pale. Shock and fear filled his dark-red eyes.
"Golden Immortal... peak Level Eight..."
He tried to stabilize himself, but Master Veridian's pressure pressed on him like a real weight. Even breathing became difficult.
Jared looked at him calmly.
"Now am I qualified?"
Malric gritted his teeth.
"You... wait here."
He turned and stumbled back into the palace.
Not long after, an older man with an even deeper aura walked out.
He had white hair and wore a black robe embroidered with dark-gold flame runes.
His face was aged, but his eyes were bright as lightning. His aura felt deep as an abyss.
He was also Golden Immortal Level Eight, roughly equal to Master Veridian.
"I am Garrick Emberfall, lord of Inferno Devil Ridge."
His aged voice carried authority.
His gaze swept over Jared, then stopped on Master Veridian. A grave light flashed in his eyes.
"Are you Master Veridian?"
Master Veridian paused.
"You know me?"
"Your name is known throughout the Nineteenth Firmament. Of course I have heard it."
Garrick's tone was calm, neither humble nor arrogant. "I simply did not expect you to appear at Inferno Devil Ridge."
Master Veridian puffed out his chest.
"Of course you have heard of me. Who in the Nineteenth Firmament does not know my name? But I did not come here to catch up. Mr. Chance has business with you."
Garrick turned his attention to Jared.
He studied the young Golden Immortal Level One cultivator, doubt moving through his eyes.
"You are the one looking for someone?"
"Yes."
Jared's voice was calm. "I am looking for Josephine. I want to see her."
Garrick frowned slightly.
A complicated look passed through his eyes.
"You are looking for Josephine?"

Josephine's first time seeing Jared kill isn't with Leyton but with Falcon. Pay attention to your work....
You need to correct yourself, dear author. Josephine was in the City of Herbs when she was a kid, so why is the city's smell surprising to her?...
