He turned around and pulled the woman into a tight embrace.

"Yvonne."

Yvonne patted his shoulder soothingly. "Yardley was really ruthless this time. That's his former brother-in-law, for God's sake, and he went for the kill?"

While the main conflict this time was their blood feud with Licht, Yardley's men had been deeply involved. It didn't take a genius to realize that Yardley was using the chaos to try and obliterate Amos completely.

It wasn't just Yardley who wanted Fairfax dead—Amos was pretty sure Starla herself wouldn't have minded seeing him in a body bag back then.

"So you were right all those years ago. He's too ruthless. Associating with him brings nothing but disaster."

Amos choked on his words. He was completely silenced.

"Are you deliberately trying to pick a fight by bringing that up?" he groaned.

Why bring up the past out of nowhere? Things had been so complicated back then! Was she really going to open that can of worms? It was no wonder Yardley had been trying to rip his throat out for years... Amos always had a knack for hitting raw nerves!
