Before he could answer, she cut in sharply. "Don't touch her."

"You—"

"I mean it. Do not hurt her," Starla hissed. "She wouldn't have come here without knowing the risks. She has a backup plan."

Herbert fell silent.

"If you do anything to her, our cover is completely blown," she pressed. They had fought so hard to stay hidden. Fairfax was already suspicious, and Romy was no fool. She had definitely set up a dead man's switch before coming.

"Then why is she here?" Herbert's brow furrowed in frustration.

Why indeed.

Starla remembered Romy's exact words: I didn't come here for you.
