Thad gathered the signed documents and quietly stepped out of the office. Once he was alone, Fairfax slammed his expensive pen onto the desk with a sharp *crack*. Frustrated, he lit a cigarette, took two deep drags, and immediately dialed Susanna's number.

She picked up almost instantly.

"Fairfax."

"Is it your doing that Yardley is tearing the world apart looking for her?" Fairfax demanded bluntly, his tone unforgiving.

The sheer venom in his voice made Susanna pause for a second.

Then, she let out a cold, soft laugh. "What exactly are you implying?"

"Don't harbor those kinds of thoughts about her!"

"What thoughts?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Fairfax growled, emphasizing every syllable.
