Garret hesitated for a moment before his expression turned grim. "Whoever is helping Brinley Seabrook is incredibly cautious. They haven't shown their face at all."

In other words, a dead end. The people Garret had sent to investigate only managed to scrape up a few low-level associates. Unless the mastermind wanted to be found, squeezing information out of those pawns was utterly useless.

"Who owns that property in Celestial Bay?" Starla asked.

"The Yelchin family."

Starla froze.

"Specifically, it's under Fairfax's name," Garret added.

Starla's expression darkened instantly. Fairfax. It was always Fairfax!

"But," Garret continued, "it's quite obvious the house wasn't actually bought by him."

"How so?" she asked, frowning. If it was registered in his name, why wouldn't it be his? She thought back to all the times Fairfax had blindly defended Brinley. But that was before. Why would he still be protecting her now, especially considering Brinley had caused his brother's death and passed off a child that wasn't even a Yelchin?

If Fairfax was still moving mountains for her, it meant his loyalty was never about his late brother, Faraday. It was about his own hidden feelings. Maybe he had been in love with Brinley all along and just hadn't realized it.

"The deed was registered to him three days ago," Garret explained, pulling her out of her thoughts. "And three days ago, Fairfax had already fled Marina City. There is physically no way he could have orchestrated the purchase of that house for Brinley."
