Chapter 1731: Planning their Defenses

Silence passed by the room, and it was only after a couple of seconds that someone finally spoke. This was Ansel.

"An upgrade...did er...so one of the buildings finally upgraded? Which one?" he asked, but what he hoped to hear, only he knew. The others were also tense, waiting for her answer.

It wasn’t that, right? No?

Althea looked awkward. "No, the territory. We’re upgrading to a Level 2 Town."

People’s faces went pale now that their fears were confirmed.

"What?"

"Seriously?!"

To be honest, everyone was in denial. "Didn’t the aborigines say it’s hard to upgrade?" Ansel asked. "What is this scam?"

Harold was pale, shaking his head. "This is not normal. What happened?"

"This could get dangerous for us, I’m afraid..." Mathilda mumbled, while Althea sighed.

Unlike most other territory Lords who’d be looking forward to upgrades, their side dreaded it.

Who told them their place was so attractive? Even if various territories were watching them, after what they did to two other Level 1 Towns, people were definitely guarded.

Althea and the rest of them thought it’d be a while before someone would try attacking them, just because they needed to be careful.

But if they were freshly upgraded...it would plant some hopeful things in people’s heads again.

And entering a new tier meant they were underdogs again, at least in terms of brute strength.

It looked like this fight came earlier than expected.

...

Unsurprisingly, another emergency meeting between the elders and other heads was called again. Some were a little excited, while some were just worried.

They all had valid concerns, of course, and other than the review of their preparation plans (which were already ongoing), this was the purpose of the meeting.

While there were a lot of advantages and new features available at the next level, it also meant they’d have to go against territories at this level.

One had to know that most territories would take decades—many of which took several decades—to upgrade from Level 1 to Level 2 Town.

This meant that their foundation would be strong and their average levels were much higher than Alterra’s, which could be said to have risen high and fast—too fast.

That said, it wasn’t like they could do anything but delay for a hundred hours at most, so they could only adjust accordingly. As soon as the upgrade was confirmed, Garan had already ordered his deputies to begin preparation. Similarly, Mathilda and the others also informed their own assistants.

So, while the Elders themselves had a meeting here, the rest of the territory was already preparing stocks, forces, weapons, and so on.

Of course, at this time, it was mostly planning and making sure the process was streamlined. Anyway, they were always perennially producing relevant items to the point of having warehouses full of surplus, selling off the excess whenever their shelf lives reduced by months. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

The main production increase would be when Althea actually made the announcement. For now...let the citizens enjoy their night.

Anyway, there were only so many things they could do since Alterra always had things prepared for a fight.

For the citizens, the best they could do was have full energy when the fight happened.

She also needed resources to build new system buildings, though definitely after the walls were built. She could even build them while the mobs were attacking.

"The area will be expanded again," Althea said. "And we will be developing a lot of things. I doubt we’ll finish that by the time the mob arrives." It was better to focus on the fights during that time, anyway.

Hearing the upcoming upgrade mob, the room had mixed reactions.

They didn’t think it’d come so soon. The last one...was such a big headache.

Upgrade Mobs were troublesome, and there was always a very real chance of losses in those times.

While they loved to get stronger, most preferred to do it at their own pace and not when tens of thousands of monsters were trying to push through their walls.

By this time, everyone in the room—including the intelligence team captain, Loki—was aware of her being the Lord, so she discussed it as such.

He was told this a while ago, especially when they started training him to lead a department they were slowly building up and detailing.

At the time, he didn’t seem to have much of an initial reaction to the news. He had a stoic face by default, but then he—a mid-level-20 fighter—fell down the stairs after the meeting, so everyone knew he was in shock.

Anyway, at present, Loki spread out the map of Alterra as well as the surrounding area. He marked the current area, a good portion of which was unwalled.

One had to remember that Althea had withheld the development after the Town upgrade, so the area they would surround with a wall this time was a massive area.

And this meant a huge amount of cost.

Fortunately, she had already made calculations, and she wouldn’t be lacking.

She’d definitely feel a bit in pain after, though.
