Chapter 1793: The Cold War (Part 1)

Another day of preparation passed by, and the day of the war finally arrived.

The enemies arrived in massive groups, merging with the hundreds of people already there.

Tens of thousands of enemy forces passed through the array, led by three generals and one reluctant advisor.

Uric, much to his chagrin, was sent out himself.

Over the past days, he had been constantly reminding the Lord of the cold. He himself led the effort as someone from the administration. For example, they had done what they could to prepare their own town, including gathering all loose firewood and rushing the tailors to create more cloth.

That was all they could do within a few days. He also never stopped warning the Lord, and asking him to invest more in the soldiers’ warming equipment.

Anyway, his mumblings eventually annoyed the Lord so much that he threw him out...to join the war.

In the Lord’s words: "If you’re so worried, then go there yourself!" and "If you think it will really happen, then finish it while the weather is still good!"

Sigh

He did bring a lot of warm coats in his space, just in case, though he also had to admit that it was only a little cool, nothing too drastic.

However, unlike the others, Uric did think deeply.

He remembered the last cold wave he experienced, or any extreme weather changes for that matter, and the changes were always instantaneous. The soothsayers from cities would always be off by a week or two as well.

The greatest soothsayer in the world lived in Holt, but he had perished about eight years ago, however, they really had not much indication at all since then. He heard the person did have an apprentice, so Holt was probably better prepared than others—assuming the Cold really was coming.

Anyway, they were divided into teams with thousands of members each. They had already lost their contact with the spies inside, but that didn’t matter because they had already made the declaration.

They also received a rough map and saw that a large portion of the walled area was still empty and undeveloped, filled only with forests.

This meant that there could be a lot of loopholes to be taken advantage of.

They targeted areas with minimal construction because, logically speaking, it’d be less guarded. There would also be fewer citizens to block their way.

They only needed most of them to land inside these walls to win this war, after all. It was still a new town and a newly expanded one at that. They also splurged and used the highest level walls in the outermost walls. In cases like these, creating the highest-level walls deeper in would not count as the target; just getting into the outer walls was enough.

This was the disadvantage of having high -level walls as the outermost system fortifications; the defense now had to handle such a massive area. They were confident that it’d take Alterra a while to adjust their forces to be able to guard everything.

The groups separated but did not go completely opposite sites of each other, so they could reinforce each other when needed. Rather, they went to different sectors of this undeveloped land, which was the larger fraction of the outer lands. Even this part would be hard to defend, especially once a breach was made!

That was what they believed until they saw the people with thick coats along the battlements, and the various large arrows pointing at them.

The Zabon Town generals raised their hands. "Shields up!"

Whoosh! Whoosh!

"AHHH!"

The sentries were level 7, above average for towns. But they had spies, so they knew this, so their territory invested a lot and used all of their Class D (double-layered for enhancement) and C-Class shields in this war!

They created a shell around the group that walked forward in an organized way, making sure the damage of the sentries was minimal to the core forces (though the slaves were mostly ignored.

Then, earth elementalists would create an inclining path from a distance, and their group would go through that. The other team had a similar tactic, though the details would be up to the general leading the team, because situations changed too often in wars.

WHOOSH!

"Widen the path! Only two sentries can target us here!"

They naturally chose an area near one of the sentries to avoid Alterra’s famous sentry overlaps. This way, they only had two to worry about. (If they hadn’t planted loose sentries outside of the outer wall, then they would’ve only had one problem, but alas).

On the battlement, Alterra’s own earth users were called in.
