Chapter 1808: Satellites in the Cold (Part 2)

It was Shannon, the girl trained to replace Silvia.¹

She was also a law graduate, though the apocalypse happened before she could take the bar exam. He admired her tenacity. He had heard of what she had been through.

This was public knowledge because she had once been mocked by some misogynistic aborigines, calling her ’dirty slut’, especially after she was announced for promotion. Of course, those damned men had to spend a few weeks in prison and months on community service.

They were almost kicked out because of it too, but Shannon stopped it. Words were not enough to push human resources away.

She did, however, request that the human resources be worked to the bone in exchange.

The administration team, who were not citizens of the satellites, were given a villa to live comfortably in, albeit on different floors and with different access. Still, the two of them crossed paths a lot after his transfer. The heating was also the best in the shared lobby, so they ended up hanging around there more often than not.

In the cold, where the rounds were shorter and the time inside was much longer, the points of contact were even longer. Subtle, tension-filled moments were exchanged through the days, ultimately culminating in them sleeping together.

It complicated the relationship since neither of them was the type to be casual about these things, but their situations might not allow for a serious relationship.

Well, Hubert had no problem with it. While Hubert was the type to fall in love quickly, and had a girlfriend before, he was the type to stay loyal and would cleanly break up when he fell out of love. Since he slept with Shannon and he liked her very much even before that, then he was definitely intent on pursuing her.

Shannon, on the other hand, had been traumatized by men after she was enslaved in Fargo Village back then.

Understandably, she had been very resistant (which also said a lot about Hubert’s charm on her, considering they actually consensually had sex) and had even offered that they just forget it ever happened.

But Hubert was passionate and fiery and very, very sticky, and the woman eventually relented. Fortunately, they lived together, so he had a lot of chances.

It was interesting how two long-time singles finally found their warmth cultivated in the cold.

This happened about a week before the Cold Wave hit, and a few days before the official announcement was made.

Georgina had worked as a manager and head concierge in a five-star hotel back in Terran, so she was quite well-versed in the hospitality industry.

If one would consider the prestige of the territory’s leading family, she was not a bad choice. However, Juni was the one in charge of handling the household, including who to hire.

It was a traditional role of noblewomen, though Juni took it upon herself so her husband and father-in-law wouldn’t have troubles and just rest easily at home after a long day doing their jobs and fighting monsters outside.

And so, her encounter with the ambitious woman was quite tense.

Of course, whether she was ambitious simply for her career...or something else, was something Juni had to determine early on.
