It’s been seven days. Seven long, brutal days since they took him.

Every day I moved around with the echo of Alec’s pain humming beneath my skin like a second heartbeat. Some days it’s faint and dull. While other days it’s unbearable.

He tries to hide it from me. I know he does, but pain has a way of leaking through cracks, especially when consciousness slips.

The meeting room is packed when I walk in. Micah and Jason had called a meeting and as Alec’s mate and Luna, I am obligated to be here.

They’re all here for one reason… Alec. He’s helped the majority of them, and they’re all here to return a favor.

King stands at the head of the table, his expression grim. Micah leans against the wall beside him, arms crossed and jaw clenched tight. Jason is seated nearby, restless, fingers tapping against his thigh. Raven takes the seat beside me, her presence grounding and steady.

“We have numbers,” King is saying. “Enough to overwhelm the outer guards if we strike fast.”

“And the wards?” Jason asks.

“The witches are confident they can bring them down,” Raven replies, glancing at me briefly. “Especially with Sadie here.”

Someone else is talking about entry points, about casualties, about timing but the words blur together because my mind isn’t here. It’s in a cold stone cell. It’s on Alec’s back, bent beneath unseen hands. It’s in the silence between screams.

I can still feel blood gushing from his side, as if I were the one going through the torture. Knox tries to heal him, but with silver binding them, it’s almost impossible because he’s weak.

I tried as much as I could to push my power and strength to him to help him heal, but it didn’t do much good because the council was relentless in torturing him. In bringing him pain.

Micah turns to me. “Sadie?”

I blink, realizing everyone is looking at me. I’d been so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even realize they had asked me a question.

“What?” I ask, my voice distant.
