My vision narrows and I snarl, "I'd like to see you try."

She charges and I meet her head-on.

Blades of wind scream around us as we collide again, my wings beating violently as I drive her backward inch by inch. She gathers power into her palm, a dense, pulsing sphere of red energy and hurls it at me.

I twist midair, but it manages to clip my shoulder.

The explosion sends pain screaming through my arm, white-hot and nauseating. I roar and answer instinctively, calling fire and hurling it in a blazing arc. She barely deflects it with her scepter, the impact knocking her sideways.

We’re everywhere. Up. Down. Through the air and across shattered ground.

She grabs my wing, fingers digging in, and rips. Feathers tear free as she slams me face-first into the earth hard enough to rattle my teeth. I scream not in fear but fury and surge upward, unleashing a wave of raw power that blasts her back like a cannon.

Energy collides with energy, tearing the battlefield apart, splitting stone, uprooting trees, and scorching earth into glass.

We’re bleeding now. Cuts line her arms, blackened and seeping. My side burns where something tore through flesh, every breath sharp and punishing. Blood drips onto the scorched ground, steaming where it falls.

We stand facing each other, chests heaving, power crackling violently between us. Two forces refusing to yield.

Only then do I notice the war around us. Hybrids swarm the clearing, clashing with wolves, witches, and vampires. Screams rip through the night. Claws meet steel. Magic explodes in brutal bursts. My mother and a circle of witches are locked in combat with Kaden, divine power colliding with dark energy hard enough to shake the ground beneath our feet.

Lola snarls and lunges for me again. I raise my hand.

“Enough!” The word tears out of me like thunder, carrying power, command, and something far more dangerous: finality.

Power doesn’t just surge. It erupts.

The ground releases me as I rise, the air bending instinctively to my will. I ascend, lifted by something far older than flight, far older than wings. I close my eyes as my wings stretch wide, silver and burning, and something vast answers my call.

"You ready?" My wolf asks.
