Leo was already ready and waiting by the door.

When he saw Isabel get out of the car, he immediately ran to her.

“Isabel.” He handed her a carton of milk, still warm. “Drink this. It’s good.”

“Thank you.” Though she was full, Isabel didn’t refuse.

She reached out and took Leo’s hand to help him into the car.

Julian’s car was quite high. Just as she was about to switch to her left hand to lift the boy, Leo was hoisted up into the vehicle.

“...”

“Be gentle with him,” she reminded Julian before climbing in herself.

Julian was completely unconcerned. “If he’s that fragile, what’s he doing at a field day? He should just stay at home wrapped in cotton wool.”

Isabel shot him a glare, disagreeing with his tough-love approach to child-rearing.

Besides, kids these days were definitely more coddled than they had been.

But Leo didn’t seem to mind.

He thought being lifted up like that was fun.

“Mister, your arms are so strong, like Iron Man.”

Julian glanced at the pint-sized kid beside him and said lazily, “You can’t call me mister.”

Leo’s mother had told him that many young men and women didn’t like being made to feel old.

He immediately corrected himself. “Brother?”

Isabel, who was drinking the milk, nearly spat it out. She wanted to ask Julian if he had any shame.

But his next words made her actually spray milk everywhere.

“For today, you have to call me ‘Daddy’.”

“...”

Seeing Isabel spray her milk, Leo quickly pulled a pack of kid-friendly wet wipes from his backpack. His arms were too short to reach, so he stood on the seat and leaned over to wipe it for her.

Isabel took the wipe from him. “I’ll do it. You sit down properly. You could fall if the car brakes suddenly.”

When she turned back, Julian had already plucked him from the car.

The man and the boy stood waiting by the vehicle.

Isabel had never really experienced this kind of “family of three” outing before.

Even when Adrian was in the country, he would never go out with her and their child.

And now, their child wouldn’t go out with her either.

She composed herself, put on a smile, and walked over. She took Leo’s hand and turned to Julian to say, “Let’s g—”

She only got one word out before she froze, her eyes fixed on a group of people nearby.

Julian looked over as well.

He wasn't particularly surprised; he already knew Adrian's son attended the same preschool.

He raised an eyebrow, but his surprise was directed at what Adrian was wearing.

Interesting.
