“Don’t you dare twist the facts!” Sophie snapped, her face flushed with anger. “You’re the homewrecker!”

“If it weren’t for you, Aunt Selena and Uncle Adrian would have been married a long time ago!”

Isabel found it laughable. “You should probably get your facts straight. If they truly wanted to get married, with Adrian’s status and power, do you really think I could have stopped him? It was Selena who insisted they were just like brother and sister. Understand?”

As Sophie’s eyes blazed with fury, Isabel continued in a calm, measured tone, “And another thing. Since they were so in love, came from matching families, and were childhood sweethearts, doesn’t your high-society circle have traditions? An engagement, then a wedding, then the legal paperwork? When I proposed marriage, they were already at an age where they could have done all that. So why didn’t they?”

“Sophie, you’re not a child anymore. You’re about to turn eighteen. It’s time you started thinking for yourself instead of letting others lead you by the nose.”

Sophie’s hand shot out, slapping the tray from Isabel’s grasp.

The hot soup splashed all over Isabel’s hand, instantly turning the skin red and sending a sharp, stinging pain through it.

“Who do you think you are, lecturing me?”

“Auntie Selena isn’t like you, with your head full of nothing but romance and schemes to trap people. She had ambitions, a dream she wanted to pursue. That’s why she postponed marrying my uncle. She never expected you to take advantage of the situation.”

“No matter how clever you are with your words, you’re still the bitch who ruined their relationship!”

Isabel didn’t bother to argue. “You’re right, I shouldn’t have been so naive as to believe what people told me.”

She began to pick up the broken pieces of the bowl from the floor, planning to get another serving from the kitchen.

“That’s why I’m divorcing your uncle now. But he’s the one who’s unwilling. There’s not much I can do about it.”

Sophie was taken aback. “What nonsense are you spouting? My uncle is the one who wants to divorce you most of all!”

“Then why don’t you go ask him for me?” Isabel said as she turned to leave, tossing one last sentence over her shoulder. “If you can get him to agree to the divorce, I’ll admit that everything you said about me is true.”

Sophie immediately decided to find Adrian.

But Adrian and Selena were busy and wouldn’t see her.

She had no choice but to wait for him at the entrance of Dominion Military Hospital and call him.

But Adrian didn’t share that view.

He hadn’t cared before because she wasn’t his daughter and didn’t affect him.

But now that she had come to him with this drama, he decided to deal with it.

“Now, go home.”

Sophie wanted to say more, but the line went dead.

She stared at her dark phone screen, replaying Isabel’s words in her mind.

Could it be true? Did her uncle not want the divorce?
