It was obvious he’d seen the news online. His goal had been achieved, and he was reveling in it. Now, it would be even harder for Isabel to get her divorce.

“Mr. Blackwell, Velaris Corporation is asking for an update.”

“Mm.”

After leaking the news of her marriage to Adrian, Isabel went to bed in a surprisingly good mood. She took great satisfaction in knowing she had created a problem for him, a mess he would have to clean up.

So what if she had forced him to marry her? He had the right to refuse. She hadn't insisted on trading her mother’s heart for his hand in marriage. In the end, he was the one who had agreed.

Even if she was in the wrong, she hadn't wronged him in the years that followed. She had given birth to their child, sacrificing so much in the process. And the divorce was supposed to be for his sake, to free him to be with Selena. But now he was the one refusing.

What was his problem? Did he just get a thrill out of having an affair?

She slept soundly, without a single dream, and woke up feeling refreshed. She even made breakfast, preparing a portion for Julian as well.

Sitting at the dining table, Julian raised an eyebrow. “The Blackwell Group’s stock price has dropped. Adrian must be getting swarmed by shareholders right now. I have to say, I’m quite pleased myself.”

But they never expected what they would find when they left the apartment after breakfast.

A black car was parked at the entrance.

Julian was trying to keep a low profile in Westbridge, and his usual green car was too conspicuous. His driver would drop him off at Evergreen Ridge Estate and then park it in a nearby underground garage. Isabel’s building was in an older neighborhood, and a car like that stuck out.

Adrian was leaning against the gleaming, obviously expensive luxury car, drawing the attention of numerous onlookers. His handsome face and commanding presence only added to the spectacle.

Isabel didn’t give him a second glance. She and Julian walked past him, heading toward the exit of the complex.

But the path was narrow, and with the car blocking most of it, she had no choice but to pass close to Adrian. He grabbed her arm.

She quickly pulled away.

“Is your right hand getting sensitive again?” Adrian sneered. “Can’t even be touched?”

“Patrick, drive.”

The driver immediately started the engine.

Isabel gritted her teeth. “Are you sure you want my help, Mr. Blackwell? My plagiarism case hasn’t been resolved. If you still refuse to divorce me, not only will this scandal affect the Blackwell family and you, but your precious sweetheart will also be branded a homewrecker.”

Adrian didn’t say a word.

The car drove directly to the airport, and Isabel was forced onto his private jet.

Seeing that resistance was futile, she took out her phone to message Julian. She had barely typed a single letter when the phone was snatched from her hand.

“I know you brought him along just to spite me. Well, you got your wish. We can’t get a divorce now, so there’s no need to contact him anymore. And keep your distance from him, to avoid giving anyone ammunition to use against the company.”

“...”
