Amanda nodded. "I'm guessing Isabel knew Adrian would protect Selena at all costs. So she turned their own plan against them, linking the drug scandal with a murder charge. Now, even if Adrian wants to shield her, it won't be so easy."

She didn't yet know that Adrian had fled the country with Selena, but seeing Catherine get involved made her confident that Selena wouldn't escape justice.

"How was she so sure they would suspect Selena?" Andrew asked.

Amanda proudly jabbed a thumb at her own chest. "Because of me."

Andrew smiled. Of course. Amanda was unshakable in her belief that Isabel would never make a mistake that could cause an explosion. So, if the official police finding was an accident, she would naturally point the finger at Selena. Selena, who had used Isabel's formula to create Y-2, knew just how skilled Isabel was. She would also realize that Isabel must have been the one who sabotaged the drug, causing the severe side effects when Old Mrs. Blackwell had been perfectly fine.

"But," Andrew voiced a concern, "if you go through with this funeral, how can Isabel ever come back?"

"She might not be coming back," Amanda said, a hint of sadness in her voice. "This lab was meant for me, anyway. She was already planning to move to Aurelia City."

Andrew sensed her melancholy and gently stroked her hair. "Do you want to go to Aurelia City, too?"

"Honestly," Amanda admitted, taking his hand, "I do. I love my work, and you know what Isabel is capable of. Working with her is the opportunity of a lifetime. But this country isn't the right place for her anymore. With Adrian constantly holding her back, she can't reach her full potential."

"If you want to go, then go," Andrew said simply.

Amanda stared at him in disbelief. "What are you talking about? If I go, I could be gone for a long time. What about you and our son?"

"We can visit you," Andrew said, lifting her hand to his lips for a soft kiss. "Whenever I have a break from work, I can bring him to Aurelia City for a while. We can come during his school holidays. Our parents are all healthy; they could even come for an extended vacation. Nothing is impossible to solve."

"In a marriage, it's not about one person sacrificing for the other. It's about finding a compromise."

Amanda's eyes welled up with tears. "But in this situation, you and our son are the ones compromising for me."

Andrew grinned. "You and Isabel will be developing cutting-edge drugs. That means I get first dibs on the good stuff, right? So, I'm not exactly losing out."

"You jerk," she said, playfully swatting his arm. "So you were just using me this whole time."

After taking the pill, Old Mrs. Blackwell collected herself and had to agree. Still, she couldn't be certain. If someone had wanted to harm Isabel, it was possible she hadn't been able to escape.

"Let's go and see her."

By the time Old Mrs. Blackwell arrived at the cemetery, Isabel had already been interred. The only people left were Amanda and Andrew Parker, who were just starting to walk down the steps.

"Mrs. Blackwell," Amanda said with a polite nod. "Let me help you up to see her."

"Thank you."

Amanda supported Old Mrs. Blackwell as they walked up the grassy slope. Andrew and Susan stayed behind.

It had started to rain. "Why don't we wait in the car?" Andrew suggested to Susan. "This autumn rain is chilly. At your age, you don't want to risk catching a cold."
