Adrian looked at Old Mrs. Blackwell's expression.
In the end, he said nothing.
“Please take care of your health.”
“You too.”
Selena had intended to accompany Adrian back to the estate.
But Mrs. Blackwell had stopped her to talk, so she hadn't been able to go.
Old Mrs. Blackwell looked remarkably well.
If she had taken Y-2, why had so many others experienced problems while she hadn't?
Could Isabel have done something?
“Selena?” Mrs. Blackwell asked with concern. “What’s wrong? You suddenly look so pale.”
Selena forced a smile. “I’m fine, just tired from the flight.”
“Then you should go back and rest. I’ll stay here.”
Selena shook her head. “Since Oliver calls me ‘Mama,’ this is my responsibility. I’ll stay with him. You should go home and rest, Mrs. Blackwell.”
“You’re such a good child.” Mrs. Blackwell picked up her purse. “I’ll come back tomorrow to relieve you.”
Selena saw Mrs. Blackwell off, and Adrian returned.
“I’ve arranged for someone to take you back to Halcyon Hills Residence.”
Selena refused. “Adrian, I want to stay with Oliver.”
Adrian had a separate room opened for her next door so she could rest.
Selena said casually, “Your grandmother looks to be in great spirits. When all those people had issues after taking Y-2, I was so worried about her. After all, I was so confident it could cure her. Sigh, I still have so much to learn.”
Adrian patted her shoulder. “Get some rest. Don’t think too much about it.”
The door closed.
Selena leaned against it, her face twisting into a mask of rage.
Isabel was undeniably brilliant.
She had known that from the moment they met.
With her new phone and number, Isabel’s first call was to Old Mrs. Blackwell.
She was the one Isabel worried about most.
Learning that Old Mrs. Blackwell was fine, she breathed a sigh of relief. “The medicine I left for you—you must take it on schedule. Don’t take any other medicine from anyone, especially not from Selena. Have Susan keep a record, in case you’re ever disoriented and someone tries to give you something you shouldn’t have.”
“To think you’re still worried about me, with everything you’re going through.” Old Mrs. Blackwell wasn’t surprised at all, only heartbroken. “If only I were a bit younger, I wouldn’t have let them bully you like this.”
“You’ve already helped me more than enough,” Isabel said, her tone deliberately light. “As long as you’re happy and healthy, I’m content. The rest isn’t a problem. I can handle it.”
Old Mrs. Blackwell hesitated for a moment before telling her about Oliver.
News from the hospital had already reached her.
Oliver wasn’t eating.
Isabel was confused. “Selena should be back by now, right?”
Given how much Oliver adored Selena, he should eat anything she made for him.
As long as she avoided the things he couldn’t have.
“She’s back.” Old Mrs. Blackwell paused. “Isabel, I know you’re hurting, but you’re a mother yourself, so you understand. Even if a child says they don’t want their real mother, no one can ever truly take her place.”
