“She doesn't deserve it.” Adrian took a bottle of ice-cold water from the fridge and chugged it down, trying to quell the raging frustration inside him.
He wanted to see just how long she could keep this up.

Isabel had pre-booked a car service.
After leaving Halcyon Hills Residence, she made a call, and the car arrived shortly.
She first went to Dominion Military Hospital to have Dr. Lawson check her right hand.
After an examination, Dr. Lawson said, “If you want it to heal completely, you need to be very careful. If you just want it to be functional, then do whatever you want.”
It wasn't that Isabel was disobedient.
It was just that sometimes, things were beyond her control.
But she didn't argue, simply nodding in agreement. “I will be extremely careful.”
Dr. Lawson also treated the cut on her left hand.
After leaving the hospital, she returned to Evergreen Ridge Estate.
She made herself a simple meal and went back to her reading.
Her phone remained on silent.
But when she woke up in the morning, there were no new messages or missed calls.
Just as she'd said, no one at Halcyon Hills Residence was going to starve without her.
Besides, Selena was there now.
She could easily placate both father and son in minutes.
Isabel was happy to have the peace and quiet.
When she arrived at the lab after breakfast, Dylan told her that a Ph.D. graduate who had been studying abroad was joining their team.
“Which superstar is it?”
“No idea,” Dylan said. “It was a last-minute notice. We'll find out when we meet them.”
Isabel didn't think much of it. The lab could always use fresh talent.
She put her bag away and went to the break room.
She remembered that Selena had stayed at Halcyon Hills Residence last night.
And yet, he had left the house without a properly ironed suit.
He must not have wanted Selena to tire herself by ironing it for him.
And he disliked having the maids, like Martha, touch his personal belongings.
It just proved how utterly ridiculous all her past efforts of waking up early to tend to him had been.
“Isabel, why are you serving tea?” Selena walked over to her with a helpless smile. “Even if you're looking for a job, you can’t be serving tea here.”
She shot Adrian a reproachful glance, then continued speaking to Isabel. “How about this? I'll have a word with Adrian and get him to arrange a comfortable position for you at the Blackwell Group. Now that Oliver is in kindergarten, you don't have to be at home all day. It would be good for you to have something to do, so we can avoid fighting over small things all the time.”
“The Blackwell Group doesn’t hire people just to fill a seat,” Adrian said coldly. “And we don’t do nepotism.”
Selena chided him gently, “Isabel isn't like those other people. She's your wife. What's the big deal about arranging something for her? No one would dare say a word.”
Adrian’s icy gaze fell on Isabel. “So this is what you meant by ‘having things to do’? Serving tea for others? I see your hand is fine now. But when I ask you to cook a meal for our child, suddenly your hand doesn't work.”
“Isabel, these tricks won’t work on me. I suggest you stop this nonsense and come home obediently.”
