Amanda didn’t press the issue. “It’s all in the past. Who cares about him anymore?”

“Right now, you need to focus on developing that new drug. I can’t wait to see you rub it in the faces of that scumbag and his mistress!”

Isabel nodded. “With your help, I can definitely speed up the process.”

Amanda suddenly thought of something and chuckled. “Speaking of which, didn’t Selena go back to the lab before I came here?”

“You won’t believe it—those idiots still trust her! They actually think you deliberately sabotaged Y-2. It’s hilarious. I can’t wait to see their faces when they realize how wrong they were.”

“What has Selena been up to in the lab?” Isabel asked.

“What can she do?” Amanda scoffed. “Without the rest of your formula, she can’t possibly replicate Y-2. I bet she still has no idea why old Mrs. Blackwell is perfectly fine, and there’s no way she can get her hands on the old lady’s blood reports now. Sure, she has a Ph.D. and she’s not completely incompetent, but she’s no match for you.”

“You’re just being biased.”

“Don’t give me that. No one knows what you’re capable of better than I do.”

Isabel decided not to waste any more time on pointless arguments. She gave Amanda a few more instructions and then immersed herself in her own experiments.

Grey Zone.

When Adrian arrived, he found Selena tending to a wound on her wrist.

His expression darkened instantly. He strode over, took her injured hand, and examined the cut. The doctor attending to her flinched in surprise.

“Mr. Blackwell.”

Adrian’s eyes were shadowed, his presence radiating an icy coldness. “How did this happen?”

The doctor stammered, unsure of what to say.

A sharp glare from Adrian sent a jolt of fear through him. “It... it was her...”

“Adrian,” Selena interjected, her face pale and fragile. “I did it myself. Don’t blame anyone else.”

Adrian remained silent as well.

Her words seemed to float past him, never quite reaching his ears.

He suppressed the roiling anger within him, forcing his voice to be as gentle as possible.

“Just because I didn’t have dinner with you that day, because I said you didn’t know Oliver’s preferences, you got angry and left the country?”

Selena still didn’t speak.

Adrian’s patience was wearing thin. He gritted his teeth. “What do you want? Just tell me.”

Selena felt as if she had never truly known him. Looking back now, all the things she had been so proud of, the way she had flaunted his devotion in front of Isabel... it all felt like a cruel joke.

Suddenly, she laughed, but her eyes were devoid of any mirth.

She said, “I want you to marry me.”
