Julian had disappeared to deal with something.

Isabel wanted to discuss things with him, but he wasn’t answering his phone, and he hadn't replied to her messages.

This was the first time that had happened since they'd been in contact.

Amanda’s words echoed in her mind.

A sense of unease washed over her.

“Where did your Mr. Reed go?” she asked one of the men Julian had left at the villa.

The man looked uncomfortable. “Ma’am...”

Isabel didn’t press him.

She told herself she was probably overthinking things.

To distract herself, she buried herself in the lab.

She had no idea that one night, a major incident had occurred in the Grey Zone.

All she knew was that the next day, Amanda had to rush back to her home country, saying something had happened with Andrew.

And Julian was not just unreachable; his phone was now switched off.

Her unease turned into full-blown panic.

She pleaded with Evelyn, “Does your family have any top-tier bodyguards? I need to borrow some.”

Evelyn, without a second thought, called Richard.

She knew that just bodyguards wouldn’t be enough; Richard had access to more capable people.

“Don’t you have Miles’s number? Ask him,” Evelyn suggested when she heard Julian was missing.

Isabel still wasn’t used to contacting the Durantin family.

It was only with Evelyn’s reminder that she remembered she could ask them for help.

But she never got the chance to make the call.

The people Richard sent were stopped on their way, apparently blocked by some kind of checkpoint.

All three avenues were dead ends.

That night, a cacophony of noises erupted outside the villa.

Isabel quickly pulled Edmund and Evelyn behind her.

The main gate was smashed open, and she saw a tall, imposing man stride in, radiating an icy chill.

She heard the thrum of a helicopter overhead.

When she went to the door, she saw all of Julian’s men lying on the ground.

“You guys are useless!” she muttered angrily, turning back inside to find Isabel’s phone.

She knew the password and immediately tried to contact Julian, but his phone was still off. Next, she called Miles and explained the situation.

Miles was occupied looking for Julian himself.

He told her he would inform his uncle, Victor Ashford, and ask him to help.

That night was merely the prelude to the storm that was to come.

“Are you okay?” Evelyn asked, helping Edmund up after the call. She then called the doctor to come and examine him.

She also called Richard to update him on the situation.

“Something feels off, honey. Can you find out what’s going on?”

If Adrian had shown up the day of the wedding, or even a couple of days after, she could have understood his motives.

But to suddenly abduct Isabel now... it didn't make sense.
