Admiral Hawke obeyed the command. He personally brought a fruit platter and yogurt to Edmund, then stepped aside with Julian to talk.

"You've really got yourself a lifeline there."

Julian lit a cigarette. "Well, I'm about to get married. I can't have my wife being targeted and hurt just for being with me."

Admiral Hawke felt Julian had changed somehow, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. "It's rare to see you with someone you like. I thought you'd be single forever."

"You've even learned the word 'single'. Impressive," Julian teased.

Admiral Hawke couldn't stay long. "I'll leave him in your care. In the future, his identity will have to be revealed. You and your wife should prepare yourselves for that."

"She's not as weak as you think. She's incredibly strong."

Admiral Hawke bowed to Edmund in farewell. "If you need anything, just call. I will ensure your absolute safety."

Edmund said, "You must also ensure my mommy and daddy's safety."

Admiral Hawke replied, "That goes without saying."

After he left, Edmund asked Julian, "Daddy, are we going to find Mommy now?"

Julian squinted his eyes. "I'm warning you. Even though you're royalty, since you call her Mommy, she's your mommy for life. If you dare have any other ideas, don't blame me for disowning you."

Edmund smiled. "Since I call you Daddy, you're my daddy for life, too. I would never fight my own father for his wife."

"Good, you know your place." Julian patted his head. "We'll stay here tonight and go back tomorrow."

Edmund knew what a ring bearer was. He asked, "Who will be my partner?"

Julian stroked his chin. "I don't have anyone in mind for that. We can find a little girl your age from the Durantin family."

"Or do you have someone in mind?"

Edmund shook his head. "No, I was just hoping you'd find someone smart."

Julian chuckled. "Your Majesty, your ears turn red when you lie."
