"I thought hell would freeze over before I saw you back at the office," Charles said.

Adrian took off his overcoat and sat down across from him. "Keeping you busy keeps you out of trouble."

Charlesl's expression shifted. "What do you know?"

Adrian said, "Everything I need to know."

Charles took a deep breath. "What do you want?"

Adrian's face was impassive. "What are you afraid of? Even if Mom divorces you now, it doesn't matter much. You're already retired."

Charles Blackwell had never been able to figure out his youngest son. He was too smart. Charles himself was mediocre, having relied on his mother and his wife, completely different from Adrian.

Though he had been sitting at the Blackwell Group's office recently, he was merely a figurehead.

Adrian had already restructured the company effectively and could manage it remotely, preventing any major issues.

He had even handled the stock price fluctuations caused by the recent news.

Not only was his mind sharper than his own, but his intentions were also impossible to guess.

"If you're hoping I'll help with the Isabel situation..."

"I don't need it."

Adrian cut him off. "I'll handle my own family's affairs. Don't read too much into what I said. It meant nothing."

Charles didn't believe him but didn't say anything more.

"Since you're back, I'm heading home."

"I don't have time to sit around here. I just came to check in today. I have something to do later this evening."

Charles didn't know what else he could possibly have to do. Hadn't he already brought Isabel back to Halcyon Hills Residence?

"Where are you going?"

"A family dinner."

Charles fell silent and sat back down.
