They took two cars.

Isabel and Julian rode in the front car with the two children, while Evelyn and Richard drove with Mr. and Mrs. Ashford and Miles in the car behind them.

They were using cars from Adrian’s garage.

When Adrian received the news, he felt no particular emotion.

He thought it was good that Isabel was willing to use his things.

Daniel nearly had a heart attack.

He wondered if Isabel had somehow poisoned Adrian's mind.

The next second, he saw the man stand up.

“Mr. Blackwell, you—?”

Could this be a final burst of energy brought on by extreme anger?

Adrian was just as surprised. He moved his limbs and found that he could, indeed, move.

He felt no discomfort at all.

He immediately demanded, “Get my clothes. Prepare the car. We’re going to Weston.”

But as soon as he stepped out of the hospital room, he crashed to the floor.

It happened so suddenly. He fell stiffly, hitting his forehead and getting a large bump. Blood trickled from his nose.

He had nearly broken the bridge of his nose.

“Mr. Blackwell!” Daniel Price quickly called for help, got him back onto the bed, and had the on-call doctor examine him.

“There’s no serious injury. I’ll prescribe some cream for his forehead, and the swelling will go down. But I can’t do anything about his paralysis.”

As long as there were no fractures, it was manageable. Daniel Price saw the doctor out and waited for the nurse to bring the ointment to apply it.

Adrian had calmed down by now and understood what had happened.

“She’s doing this just to torture me.”

Daniel finished applying the cream and screwed the cap back on. He sighed. “On the night of the thirtieth, Mrs. Blackwell already told you she was going to make you suffer.”
