Susan handed her the medication. “It sounds like Mr. Blackwell finally understands what you were trying to do. Why don’t you seem happy?”

Old Mrs. Blackwell took her medicine. “It’s because he’s too smart. He was spoiled his whole life, and everything came too easily for him.”

“Even love. It was given to him by Isabel, not something he had to pursue.”

“It’s useless for him to realize his mistakes now. Her heart has already grown cold.”

Susan moved behind her and began to gently massage her temples. “It’s like they say, you have to let them live their own lives.”
