Adrian felt a headache coming on. He controlled his temper and said, “I’m not going to do anything to your mother.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Oliver said, standing in front of Isabel with his little fists raised. “You made Mommy cry earlier.”

Adrian couldn’t argue with that, but he hadn't meant to. He just wanted to clarify a few things.

Besides, if they were going to work together, they couldn’t keep up this hostile dynamic.

Right now, the thing he feared most was Isabel getting angry or crying.

But what was done was done, so he didn’t try to explain.

He just held out the gift. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”
