She mentally kicked herself.

Talk about putting her foot in it.

Now, he had seen her go after Selena with his own eyes.

It would only further convince him that her talk of divorce was just a tantrum, a ploy to tarnish Selena's name.

Selena, however, didn't seem to mind. "I knew you still cared about this."

She smiled. "It's perfect, actually. Everyone's here tonight. We can all sit down later and clear up any misunderstandings."

Isabel bit her tongue, saying nothing.

The rest of the car ride was mostly silent.

Occasionally, Selena and Adrian would chat about topics she couldn't join in on.

When they arrived at Halcyon Hills Residence, she was the first one out of the car.

Instead of entering the code at the gate, she knocked.

Martha opened the door and was both surprised and delighted to see Isabel.

"Mrs. Blackwell..."

"Don't call me that," Isabel said as she slipped on a pair of disposable shoe covers and walked inside. "Where's Oliver?"

Martha pointed upstairs.

Isabel headed for the stairs.

When Martha saw Adrian and Selena walk in together right behind her, her eyes widened.

They were certainly brazen.

But as a housekeeper, she couldn't say anything. She just bent down to get them their slippers.

From the landing on the staircase, Isabel had a clear view of the entryway.

Martha took Adrian's coat to hang it up, while Adrian took Selena's bag and carefully placed it on the rack.

She remembered how it used to be her, happily greeting him at the door, taking his coat, and fetching his slippers.

As they walked in, her gaze fell to their feet. They were wearing a matching pair of slippers—one black, one white.

How nice.

They should just keep this up.

She refused to believe that Adrian, who was so fond of Selena, would let her remain in this ambiguous position forever.

Even though she'd heard Selena say yesterday that she planned to string Adrian along.

But a man like Adrian, even if he was willing to be strung along, wouldn't have the patience to keep things undefined forever.

To like someone is to want to possess them.

He was used to getting whatever he wanted with ease.

Right now, he was just humoring Selena, playing her game.

Isabel tore her gaze away and went to the children's room.

He scrunched up his face and said, "I told you last time, I don't want you..."

Isabel didn't coddle him. She simply turned and walked away.

Oliver froze, watching her actually go down the stairs. He quickly chased after her.

"Mommy!"

After all, she had given birth to him and raised him herself.

She knew his personality inside and out.

But honestly, she wasn't in the mood to coax him.

She was only here because Adrian had shown up at her place last night.

She had to come, for the sake of the divorce.

There was also the fact that she had made the unilateral decision to have Oliver.

She couldn't just stand by and watch him stay sick.

"What do you want to eat?"

Oliver's eyes visibly brightened.

Just as they reached the bottom of the stairs, he saw Selena sitting on the sofa, sipping tea. He ran over to her excitedly.

"Auntie Selena, you were right! Mommy really came back to cook for me."

Instantly, the corners of Isabel's mouth turned down, and a chill crept into her eyes.
