In this standout chapter of the Romance novel Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps, Evelyn Hartwell introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.
Isabel had expected Selena to be there.
She was, after all, the apple of Adrian’s eye.
But because old Mrs. Blackwell wasn't fond of her, Isabel had assumed Adrian wouldn't let Selena make such a high-profile appearance at the birthday party.
She had underestimated the extent of Adrian's affection for Selena.
When she looked over, she was nearly blinded by Selena's couture gown and the jewels around her neck.
Selena was wearing a white gown from a famous luxury brand, hand-embroidered with diamonds. The fabric draped perfectly, hugging her curvaceous figure.
Her jewelry was from the same brand, and her hair was styled in a simple, low ponytail.
Elegant and graceful.
It suited her well and was undeniably eye-catching.
But Isabel felt nothing. She stepped aside to make her phone call.
Selena, however, insisted on approaching her. “Isabel, why are you standing out here? Did Grandma not arrange for someone to pick you up? She should have at least sent you an invitation. Did you forget it? It’s okay, I can take you in. Adrian’s in the car too.”
Of course, Isabel didn’t need an invitation.
She had tried calling old Mrs. Blackwell’s butler, Robert, but he hadn't answered.
He was probably busy.
She hadn’t expected to be stopped by security.
Since it was a celebratory occasion, she decided not to make a fuss.
She walked around the front of the car and got into the passenger seat.
The security guard was stunned. He stopped Selena as she was about to get in. “Is she your friend?”
Selena smiled gently. “Yes, she is.”
The guard was about to say more when he saw Mr. Blackwell in the car, his gaze cold and displeased.
He immediately bowed and scraped, holding the door for Selena and helping her in.
He even closed the door for her considerately.
“Isabel, I was thinking Adrian could have picked you up from the lab with me, but you left before I did. If something comes up next time, you should wait for me.”
Isabel remained silent.
But Selena was getting on her nerves, and she had no desire to talk to her. Seizing the opportunity, she addressed Adrian directly. “Mr. Blackwell, when can we finalize the divorce?”
An almost imperceptible frown creased Adrian’s brow. His voice was as cold as it always was with her. “With all these people here today, are you deliberately trying to make a bigger scene?”
She had thought that since Adrian had agreed to the divorce and signed the papers, he wouldn’t still think of her that way.
But he still saw her as someone who wanted to cause a scene and make everyone condemn Selena.
Isabel forced herself to stay calm. “After the party is over, please, Mr. Blackwell, spare a little time to settle the divorce proceedings.”
“I have plans tonight,” Adrian said.
Isabel was about to say more, but Selena interrupted. “Isabel, you’ve been pouting for long enough. I really have to stand up for Adrian here. He only takes care of me because of my grandfather. You shouldn't misunderstand him. And let me tell you, you can’t just throw the word ‘divorce’ around. If you really go through with it, you’ll regret it when it’s too late.”
“I won’t regret it,” Isabel said, her patience finally snapping. “He agreed to divorce me to cover up the fact that you deliberately injured me. So you can stop with the fake concern. If we don’t get divorced, you’ll be the one going to jail.”
