He scanned the banquet hall for her as soon as he arrived. When he saw her with old Mrs. Blackwell, he decided not to approach just yet, but his gaze lingered on her.

After all, this was old Mrs. Blackwell’s eightieth birthday. No matter how much the guests wanted to network with Adrian, they had to turn their attention to the matriarch once she made her entrance.

And as they did, they noticed the unfamiliar face beside her.

The woman wore a form-fitting, ice-blue gown that perfectly hugged her figure. Her hair was swept up in an elegant updo, and her light makeup highlighted a cool, clean beauty. It was a unique kind of charm, and many found it hard to look away.

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

“Is she a relative from old Mrs. Blackwell’s side of the family?”

“Probably, but I’ve never seen her at any of the previous birthday celebrations.”

“Maybe she’s just come of age. This would be a special occasion to introduce her to society.”

Even if she was just a distant relative, marrying into the Blackwell circle was always a good move. Those with eligible sons were already getting ideas.

Selena glanced at the crowd, a flash of coldness in her eyes. She hated seeing Isabel shine.

Leaning closer to Adrian, she whispered in a soft, charming voice, “Adrian, look at all those men. They seem very interested in Isabel, don’t they? It makes sense. This is the first time I’ve ever seen her so dressed up. She’s stunning. If I were a man, I’d find it hard not to be captivated.”

“Mm,” Adrian replied, his expression as cool and unreadable as ever.

Oliver, who had spotted Isabel, was momentarily stunned by her appearance before running to Adrian. “Daddy, Mommy looks so pretty today! Are she and great-grandma going to perform something?”

“No,” Adrian said flatly.

Mrs. Blackwell cut in, “She’s trying to stop your father from getting a divorce.”

Oliver didn’t fully grasp the concept of divorce. He asked Adrian, “If you and Mommy don’t get a divorce, will she come home? Does that mean Auntie Selena can’t be my mommy anymore?”

“Yes,” Adrian confirmed.

Oliver’s face fell instantly. “Then you and Mommy have to get a divorce.”
