"Isabel," Selena interrupted, her tone laced with disapproval. "Using the same trick twice is just boring. I've been trying to persuade Adrian on your behalf, and I've been tirelessly advising you. The truth was, she couldn't stand seeing Julian dote on Isabel.

"Are you done?" Julian said with a smirk. "With a mouth like yours, why are you a lab researcher? You should be a diplomat. With that talent for twisting the truth, you could probably rewrite history and make them weep with remorse for what they did to our country."

Selena wasn't very close to Julian, but their relationship was definitely better than his with Isabel.

After all, Isabel only knew Julian through her grandmother's connection to old Mr. Reed.
