Chapter 804: I am asking you about my wife.

The next morning —

Arwen and Aiden were in the car heading somewhere.

Arwen stared out of the window and tried to understand where he was taking her, but she couldn’t guess it, no matter how hard she tried to think. And since the last evening, Aiden hadn’t talked to her —not even when she had tried to.

He was still careful and gentle around her, but his deliberate silence like that was just making it uncomfortable for her. She was yet to get his reaction on the news she had shared with him, but he ... he was simply not talking to her.

And that was just not feeling right?

Was he upset with the news?

Given what they discussed earlier, he shouldn’t be. But then, what made him react this way?

She tried to think, but nothing helped her. She couldn’t tell what Aiden had been thinking in his mind. And why was he reacting this way? Why was he giving her the silent treatment?

Not able to take his silent attitude anymore, she turned towards him and asked, his voice laced with clear discomfort and irritation. "Husband, if you haven’t realized, let me help you notice. You haven’t talked to me since last evening."

Neil heard her and instinctively, his eyes shifted to stare at Aiden through the rear-view mirror. He had also sensed the sudden shift in this boss’s mood that was kind of rare, especially around the lady, but he hadn’t dared to assume it. After all, after seeing so much, he could doubt anything but his master’s love for his wife.

Aiden heard Arwen, but there came no shift in his expression. He simply turned to look at her and met her eyes evenly before responding. "I have realized it very well."

"You did?" Arwen’s brows quirked up as though she could believe him on that.

He nodded. "Yes, I do realize that I have talked to you for thirteen hours, ten whole minutes and thirty-two seconds." His gaze got deeper as he spoke, and under his such intense gaze, Arwen felt her breath hitch. And for a moment, she saw hurt flashing in his gaze as though he was punishing himself for something.

Her hands moved on their own to reach his. "What’s wrong with you? Did I hurt you?" she asked, not hiding how easily his emotions affected hers. She could take anything in the world ... the worst pains and suffering, but she could bear the thought of him suffering even a little.

Aiden stared at her. He didn’t respond to her. He just watched her, and just when Arwen would have urged him to tell her, Neil pulled up the car and softly announced.

"Sir, we have arrived."

Aiden pulled away and looked out of the window. Arwen still wanted to ask him, stay there and get the answers, but when she saw Aiden already moving to open the door on his side, she knew she could only push the topic for later.

Her eyes darted to look outside, and her brows pulled slightly in confusion when she realized that it was Jason’s clinic they had arrived at. Before she could ask him anything, Aiden had already stepped out of the car.

She watched him as he rounded around to come to her side and opened the door for her. Giving her his hand, he waited patiently for her to take it.

"Why did you bring me here today?" she asked, placing her hand into his and then stepping out of the car.

But he didn’t give her the response. He simply closed the door and said, "Let’s go."

She didn’t ask further and walked with him inside.

As they stepped inside the building, unlike every time, Aiden didn’t steer her towards Jason’s department this time. Instead, he took her towards the gynaecology department.

Emyr was already standing outside a doctor’s office. When he saw Aiden Arwen walking his way, he quickly moved in that direction and greeted him with a polite bow.

Arwen nodded back to him, and he turned to Aiden to inform. "Sir, the doctor is ready and waiting for you."

Arwen turned and looked at Aiden, a realization dawning upon her. "The doctor? You brought me here for a checkup?"

Aiden relaxed a little under her touch, but his expression didn’t ease. Staring at the doctor, he asked again. This time his words his words clearer than before. "I am not asking about the embryo that is yet to take shape. I am asking you about my wife. Tell me how this pregnancy is going to affect her? Is it going to be difficult for her? If yes, just how difficult would it be?"

The way he mentioned it only revealed what he was scared of. He wasn’t concerned about the baby; that’s always a man’s concern of every man. He was concerned about his wife as though, apart from her, nothing else mattered in his world.

The doctor couldn’t help but pause at his clear priority. She had seen many couples coming for the checkups, but she had never seen a man this serious about his wife before. It was a very heartwarming yet envious situation.

Arwen felt her heart flutter inside her chest. She couldn’t help but stare at Aiden, unblinking. Just when she thinks that she couldn’t fall more for this man, he makes her rethink it again.

How could he always make her feel this way?

The doctor’s expression softened as she spoke gently. "The pregnancy is never easy for a woman, Mr. Winslow. Physically, mentally, emotionally —it changes everything."

She leaned forward slightly, continuing now with a reassuring smile. "The nine months of pregnancy will make Mrs. Winslow experience fatigue, morning sickness, mood fluctuations, and dizziness in the early stages. As the months progress, she will feel constant backaches, swelling, and occasional anxiety. Her immunity could also dip slightly, and she will be more sensitive to stress and exhaustion. But —" she paused and looked at Arwen with a kind smile. "... you don’t have to worry about these changes. Women are sent prepared to take these small troubles. She will be able to manage it as long as she is cared for properly."

As she completed her words, the doctor thought she answered it all, but Aiden’s expression only became worse hearing it. It looked like her words didn’t satisfy him enough.

"Mr. Winslow, is there anything else that you want to ask?" she asked, her brows slightly drawing in confusion.

Aiden looked at her and thought for a moment before finally asking, "Does she have to go through it all alone? Or is there a way in which I could share all of her pains and sufferings?"

The doctor was taken aback. Her gaze darted to look at Arwen briefly as though asking her to help her understand what the man was asking her.

He couldn’t be asking her to tell him the ways in which he could get pregnant instead of his wife. Could he?
