Cassian slammed his fist into the wall.

A violent surge of pain shot up his arm and pierced straight into his brain, clearing the fog.

"Monica Ashley?"

He leaned heavily against the wall to keep his trembling body upright, staring at the woman on the bed with absolute loathing.

Monica froze, her eyes dropping to his hand.

He had punched the wall with the hand that still had the IV needle in it. The wound tore open, and a stream of crimson blood ran down his forearm.

He was so repulsed by the idea of sleeping with her that he would rather mutilate himself?!

"Why? What is so great about her? I even pretended to be her, and you still refuse to touch me!"

The matriarch gave her a sideways glance. "How about you head back and rest?"

Ruby pursed her lips. "Let's go in first. I want to make sure nothing serious happened."

The matriarch pushed the door open.

The bitter fury on Monica's face froze as her gaze snapped toward the entrance.

The older woman stood in the doorway, her expression thunderous.

"Put your clothes on."

She frowned, her face darkening with disgust.

It took a second for Monica to realize the command was directed at her. She hastily grabbed the comforter and wrapped it tightly around herself, staring at the two intruders in sheer terror.

The matriarch surveyed the chaotic room, looking as though she had aged a decade in a matter of seconds.

"Call another family doctor to patch him up."

She barked the order.

Ruby remained entirely expressionless, acutely aware of the burning gaze fixed on her the second she stepped into the room.

A maid tried to guide Cassian to the adjacent room to wait for the doctor, but the moment she reached for his arm, he shoved her away.

"Ruby, it's not what you think. I didn't..."
