"No."
Ruby shook her head and casually brushed his hand away.
"I… I'll be good from now on…" He bit his lip and lowered his head, his hair hiding most of his face and obscuring his expression. "I won't fight with him anymore. I'll listen to everything you say."
As he finished speaking, he lifted his head.
His eyes, as blue as a tranquil lake, were filled with pleading.
Ruby slowly sat down on the sofa and took Mira from Pamela before shaking her head at Landon again. "No. I made my decision last time. You have to leave today!"
At her words, Sylas Cunningham, who had been lounging lazily on another sofa, perked up, a triumphant smirk spreading across his face.
He shot Landon a look of smug satisfaction, clearly relishing his victory.
Landon, however, was in no state to notice Sylas's provocation. Ruby's cold rejection was all he could think about.
"No! I want to live with you! I came to Quinborough for you!"
Landon threw a full-blown tantrum, looking like he was about to start rolling on the floor.
"For me?"
Ruby caught the strange note in his words and looked up at him, puzzled. "You went to Stormhaven to fulfill your grandmother's wish, and you came to Quinborough because I was the only person you knew and you wanted to travel around Veytura. Why are you saying this now?"
Landon stared into Ruby's eyes, saw not a trace of a desire for him to stay, and felt his heart shatter into a million pieces.
He clenched his jaw and his fists. "It wasn't just Quinborough. I came to Veytura for you, too!"
Ruby was even more confused, but Landon strode forward and grabbed her by the wrist.
If she wouldn't let him hold her clothes, her hand would have to do.
"You're my fiancée!"

"I have pictures of you as a baby!"
With that, he rushed upstairs and returned with a photo album, flipping it open for Ruby to see.
Inside were pictures of Ruby as a soft, pink-cheeked infant.
Ruby's eyes widened.
They really were pictures of her as a child. So many of them, too.
She glanced suspiciously at Landon. "Where did you get these?"
Landon lifted his chin proudly. "You don't remember? We met before. Your grandmother and my grandfather even took a photo together, and we were in it."
