Monica’s surprise was written all over her face.

She was a jewelry design major, and her alma mater was the same as Travis’s. That was why she had been so certain that what Ruby had given the old woman was a fake.

Because Travis didn’t have any students!

“Fine!”

Monica eagerly agreed, her eyes sparkling as she stared at Ruby.

If Ruby wanted to bluff her way through this, then she couldn’t be blamed for calling her out on it!

Besides, she had done her research on this Ruby before coming. She was just the daughter of some middle-class family from a remote place called Stormhaven, and she wasn’t even well-liked by her own family.

How could someone like that possibly know Travis?

“You’re the one who said it, so don’t blame me for pushing. Go on, call your friend.”

Ruby took out her phone to make the call.

“Ruby? Why the sudden call? Aren’t you at the old Mrs. Veyne’s birthday party? Has something happened? Is it about the brooch?”

Garrison’s voice was as calm and reassuring as ever. The moment Ruby heard it, the tension in her heart eased.

“Yes,” she said apologetically. “Someone here is insisting the brooch is a fake and wants to meet you in person.”

She already felt bad for troubling Garrison with the custom order and hadn't even figured out how to thank him properly. Now she had to ask him to come all the way to Veyne Mansion, which made her feel even more guilty.

“I see. It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it, I’ll be there shortly.”

Ruby hadn't lowered the volume on her phone, so everyone present could hear her conversation with Garrison.

A child’s soft cooing could be heard in the background.

Monica scoffed.

It had been years since Travis dominated the design world. By now, he had to be in his forties. How could his voice sound so young?

Ruby was clearly just putting on a show!

Her eyes burned with anticipation, waiting for the person to arrive so she could expose Ruby’s little game.

Once the old woman and Cassian saw this woman for the phony she was, they wouldn't take her seriously anymore, and that would be her chance!

As her thoughts raced, Monica felt a thrill of victory, her heart pounding with excitement.

“Ruby, since your friend is looking after Mira, if he’s coming over, why don’t you ask him to bring her along?”

Though the old woman’s tone was a request and her eyes were pleading, her grip on Ruby’s wrist was tight, as if she wouldn't let go until she agreed.

Ruby figured that Mira should meet her great-grandmother, especially after the old woman had prepared so many gifts for her. It would be too heartless to not even let them meet.

Finally, she gave a resigned nod and told Garrison to bring the child with him.

Her eyes crinkled with warmth, looking even kinder than before.

“You’ve been waiting for so long, you must be hungry. I’ll have the chef bring you some dessert.”

She spoke with genuine care and personally poured a cup of hot tea for Ruby.

Ruby sensed the old woman’s excitement but remained composed as she accepted the tea, taking a small sip and telling her not to go to any trouble.

The old woman then pulled Cassian over and sat him down opposite Ruby. As she did, she gave him a subtle, meaningful wink.

She was doing her part; now her grandson had to step up.
