That was the real reason she had summoned Natalie today.
She’d heard that Sebastian was now the one refusing to divorce.
“Sebastian, Natalie owes you nothing. You’ve fulfilled your grandfather’s agreement, and control of the company is in your hands. There’s no need to keep her tied down anymore.”
Natalie was taken aback, looking at the matriarch’s kind face. She hadn’t expected her to bring this up the moment she arrived.
Sebastian frowned. His grandmother had always been against the divorce. Why the sudden change of heart?
“Grandma, this is between my wife and me,” he said, his tone heavy.
Mrs. Griffith Sr. frowned back, unable to understand him. He used to despise Natalie, so why was he holding on now? “But you don’t love her. I’ve heard that young man from the Monroe family has taken an interest in Natalie, and he seems like a decent person. You should let Natalie go find her own happiness. I’ve discreetly checked up on Matthew. At least he wouldn’t neglect Natalie or side with outsiders when she’s being bullied.”
“Unlike you, who is completely focused on a woman like Joanna.”
Sebastian’s brow furrowed, but he remained silent.
Natalie listened, feeling grateful for the old woman's strong support.
She remembered all the times Joanna had framed her and Sebastian had unconditionally favored Joanna. The memory still stung.
Even in this new life, the pain was still there, etched deep within her.
Sebastian stared at Natalie. Did she like Matthew too?
He had seen them having dinner together. She had been smiling so happily.
Was her love for him really that shallow?
To fall for someone else so quickly.
Sebastian’s gaze on Natalie was intense. “Let’s have dinner first,” he said grimly.
Natalie helped the matriarch to the dining room.
The housekeeper immediately slipped out into the garden to call Joanna.
“Hello? Ms. Scott, that bitch Natalie is here to see the old woman. And what’s more, Mrs. Griffith Sr. said Mr. Griffith could divorce Natalie, but he’s not allowed to marry you.”
“Ms. Scott, if you want to marry into the Griffith family, that old woman is your biggest obstacle.”
The housekeeper spoke in hushed tones, glancing around nervously.
Joanna was furious. That old hag. She was the one standing in her way.
“Keep an eye on Sebastian and Natalie for me. Don’t let them sleep in the same room. I’ll arrange that job for your son when I get back.”
The housekeeper’s face lit up, but then she hesitated. “Ms. Scott, they’re husband and wife. It’s normal for them to share a room, I don’t have a reason to stop them. But I know Mr. Griffith loves you, so I doubt he’ll stay with Natalie.”
Joanna sneered, “Just watch them. I wouldn’t put it past that shameless Natalie to try and seduce him.”
