He had once come across a quote: 'You only shine so brightly because she loves you. When she no longer loves you, you are nothing.'
“Let’s talk,” he said in a low voice.
Natalie looked at him, her eyes lighting up. “About the divorce?”
Sebastian choked on his words, his tone heavy. “Natalie, I’ve told you, we’re husband and wife. A divorce is impossible.”
Natalie glared at him. “You rotten bastard, have you no conscience? I took care of you like a maid for two years, and now that I want a divorce, you pull this on me. Just sign the papers and stop getting in my way of finding a younger man.”
Natalie decided that speaking to him nicely was getting her nowhere.
Maybe some vulgarity would get through.
Sebastian's anger flared. “Natalie, are you that desperate for a man? Is it because I didn’t satisfy you during our marriage that you’re now so empty you need to find someone else?” In his rage, Sebastian spoke without thinking.
Natalie shot him a disdainful look. “Mr. Griffith, I should thank you for not touching me. If you had, I probably would have thrown up everything I’ve ever eaten.”
“After all, Joanna has slept with everyone from Mr. Wilson to common thugs. If you had slept with me, I’d probably be disgusted with myself for the rest of my life.”
Sebastian shuddered. In the stark black of his coat, his handsome face looked even colder, almost ascetic.
He was naturally blessed with deep-set eyes that gave him an air of detachment.
“Natalie, I didn’t…”
“You’re here.” Keith’s voice suddenly cut in, interrupting Sebastian.
Seeing Keith, Natalie’s face lit up with a genuine smile. “Mr. Jones, you’re finally here. Here are the designs. I’m heading back now, but I’ll call you if anything comes up.”
Keith looked puzzled. “You’re not coming up? We have that orange juice you like.”
Natalie shook her head. “I won’t come up this time. You should have brought some down with you.”
Keith smiled. “I thought you’d want to come up for a bit. It’s been a while since you’ve been here.”
Natalie looked down at his hand on her arm, then back up at his face.
Her eyes flashed with disgust. “What do you think you’re doing? Let go of me.”
Sebastian pulled her toward his car.
With a sharp bang, the car door slammed shut.
Sebastian looked at Sean. “Let’s go.”
Natalie was furious. “Mr. Griffith, please stop doing this. I don’t want to be in the same car as you.”
Sebastian turned to face her. She wore light makeup that enhanced her natural beauty, a woman whose smile could light up a city.
He smiled coolly, a hint of recklessness in his eyes. “Natalie, don’t forget you’re still my wife. I have every right to demand you fulfill your wifely duties.”
Natalie suddenly grew tense. “Mr. Griffith, is Joanna not home? No one to satisfy you?”
