Natalie let out a humorless laugh, enraged by his shamelessness. “Husband and wife? We’re in the middle of a divorce. I was kind enough to make you dinner, and this is how you repay me?”
Sebastian's face darkened instantly, his gaze intense and intimidating. “Natalie, I've told you before, we will never get divorced in this lifetime. Not unless I'm dead.”
“Fine! You’ll die eventually. I can wait until you're dead to get remarried. I'm young, I can afford to wait. I have no desire to be with an old man like you.”
Sebastian frowned, a cold light flickering in his eyes. She called him old?!
And she was wishing for his death!
Natalie, oblivious to Sebastian’s darkening expression, quickly checked herself. Seeing her clothes were still on, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing her visible relief, Sebastian felt a pang in his chest. Did he really seem like such a beast to her?
“Natalie, once you’ve recovered, we’re going to consummate this marriage.”
Natalie recoiled in fear, baffled by Sebastian's sudden madness. “Don’t. I'm begging you, go bother Joanna, not me. I remember on the day we registered our marriage, you said you'd give me the title of Mrs. Griffith, but never your body or your heart.”
“So, Sebastian, please stick to your principles and don't make me break mine.”
“I will not sleep with a man who doesn’t love me and whom I don’t love. Last night was an accident. I was injured and medicated, so I slept heavily. But you were awake. What you did disgusts me.”
With that, Natalie got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
Sebastian took a deep breath. Had he really said that?
He couldn't even remember, so why did she recall it so clearly?
He decided to skip work today. Natalie's bed was soft and fragrant, and he found himself reluctant to leave it. He lay back down and fell asleep again.
The unique, faint scent of Natalie in the air seemed to lull him, and he quickly drifted off.
When Natalie came out of the bathroom and saw Sebastian asleep again, her eyes blazed with fury.
She lay on the sofa, one arm hooked up to the drip, and used the other to call Marshall.
“Natalie, are you feeling any better today?” Marshall asked as soon as he answered.
Natalie laughed. “Much better, just sore all over. I’m on an IV right now. How are things on your uncle’s end?”
Marshall's laugh was cold and wicked. “Natalie, now that my cousin has been arrested, my Uncle’s family is going crazy. They couldn't find you or reach you, so they showed up at my house first thing this morning.”
Natalie knew that Maxwell's father was no pushover, but since he was in league with Joanna, she wouldn't let him off easily either.
“I understand. I’ll wait for the police to summon me before I go in.”
Marshall’s tone was full of concern. “Natalie, you just focus on resting. I’ll keep a close eye on my uncle for you, so don’t worry.”
Natalie felt relieved. “Okay! Marshall, thank you! How’s the investigation into the materials coming along?” she asked, her voice tinged with a smile.
