“If the company’s gone, it’s gone. We still have the subsidiary. As long as we work hard, we can turn it into a big company in a few years.”
Nathan’s chest ached with anger. His recent mental breakdown had led to his own ruin, and now that he was feeling better, he couldn’t believe what he had done.
Nathan looked at the growing crowd around them, and Joanna was mortified.
Nathan hung up, his face purple with rage. He turned to Joanna and started crying.
“Waaah… Joanna, what do I do? Wendy sold my company! What am I going to do now?”
That company was his greatest source of pride.
Joanna was momentarily stunned. Wendy was actually capable enough to sell her father’s company to pay off her debts.
Just then, Joanna’s phone rang.
She answered it with a hint of annoyance.
“Hello!”
“Joanna, it’s me, Luther. After your mother’s company lost its investment from Ceryn Corp., she said she was having cash flow problems and borrowed a hundred million from me. I just heard last night that her company went bankrupt. When is your family going to pay me back that hundred million? I can’t get through to your mother’s phone.”
Joanna was speechless.
Had Wendy gone insane?
Why was she borrowing money from everyone?
“Luther, I don’t know. My mother divorced my father to avoid implicating him. I don’t know where she is.”
“What? So my hundred million just went down the drain? Well, children must pay their parents’ debts. Since your mother can’t pay it back, you two will have to.”
“Oh… so you weren’t calling to get back together, Nathan. What does the company have to do with you? I told you before, that company is mine. Am I not allowed to sell it to pay off my debts?”
“But what right do you have to sell my company? That was my life’s work!” Nathan screamed, his vision going black as he felt himself about to faint.
Wendy heard his pained voice and a faint smile crossed her lips. This was just the beginning.
He couldn’t even handle this? If Nathan dared to scheme against her, her children, and her assets, then he had to be able to withstand the counterattack she had meticulously planned.
Every step she had taken this past year had been incredibly difficult.
She had feigned obedience to Nathan and Joanna just to make them lower their guard while she quietly handled matters at the company.
Wendy deliberately sounded sad. “Nathan, how can you blame me? I was only doing this for your own good.”
Nathan roared crudely, “Wendy, you’re full of it! How is this for my own good?”
