On the way, Lilith was scrolling through her phone when one of the bodyguards glanced at the rearview mirror. “Miss, I think we’re being followed.”
Lilith looked back and frowned. “Why is *he* here?” She recognized the car immediately. Was that man following her?
“Should we lose him, miss?” the driver asked.
Lilith rested her chin on her hand, thinking. “Slow down. Let’s see if he passes us.”
The SUV’s speed dropped, and the car behind them quickly pulled ahead, moving in front of them. Just as Lilith breathed a sigh of relief, the other car slammed on its brakes. The sudden stop nearly sent her flying into the seat in front of her.
“Is this guy nuts?” The driver, furious, unbuckled his seatbelt and stuck his head out the window. “Who taught you how to drive? Did you buy your license on the street?”
Judd got out of his car. Seeing the hostility from the other vehicle, the driver and the other bodyguard exchanged a look and got out as well.
“Wait! He’s a friend, a friend!” Lilith scrambled out of the SUV to stop them.
Judd calmly brushed a piece of lint from his jacket. “Miss Sutherland, I thought you had run away from home and fallen on hard times. And yet, you have enough money to hire two bodyguards?”
“Uh…” Lilith’s mind raced. She forced a smile. “A relative hired them for me. I just found out today…”
“And this relative wouldn’t happen to be Evander, would he?”
She was speechless. “What… what are you talking about? My cousin is dead.”
“I know perfectly well whether he’s dead or not,” Judd said, his gaze cold and steady. “Take me to him. If you don’t want Charlotte to find out.”

Charlotte’s eyes flickered. “I don’t know much about their history.”
Neely chuckled, resting his hands on her desk. “Then let’s talk about something you *do* know.”
She understood his implication and clenched her fists.

“You don’t have to tell me. I was just curious,” Neely said, his eyes, like a hawk’s, fixed on his prey. “But I must admit, I’m surprised you still recognized me after all these years.”
