Charlotte snapped out of her thoughts. "I was starting to think you'd quit after just a few days."

"Of course not! I was just exhausted from moving and needed to crash for a couple of days." As she spoke, her eyes drifted to Judd's office, where the blinds were drawn tight. "Ooh, what's this? Don't tell me he's got someone stashed away in there. I have to go see."

"Wait—" Charlotte started, but Lilith was already at the office door. Just as she was about to nudge it open a crack, it was suddenly pulled wide from the inside.

She lost her footing and tumbled into the room.

Evander deftly sidestepped, causing her to lose her balance completely.

Judd had just risen to his feet to catch her, but he was too late. She ended up sprawled on her hands and knees right at his feet.

Evander let out a short laugh. "I thought you went back to Crestmont."

"I... well, I'd just be bored with nothing to do back home, getting in everyone's way. I figured I'd stay here and keep my part-time job." She forced a smile.

"'A part-time job? You?'" Evander narrowed his eyes. He knew her better than that. "Come on. You're coming back with me."

Lilith bit her lip. "No." With that, she darted out the door and rushed to Charlotte's side, grabbing her arm. "I'm not going back! I'm staying here. You're the one who sent me here in the first place, so you can't just make me leave whenever you feel like it!"

Evander rubbed his throbbing temples.

Ignoring his thunderous expression, Lilith plowed on. "And I seem to recall *someone* saying that I was just going to stir up trouble if I stayed home, and that I should come to Eldermere City to get some real-world experience. And maybe, you know, keep an eye on things for you..."

Before she could finish, Evander brought a fist to his lips and let out a sharp cough.
