Charlotte, Lilith, and Loretta shared a tent. It was spacious, with enough room for at least two more people.

After Loretta fell asleep, it was just Lilith and Charlotte.

Lilith suddenly rolled over to face her and whispered, “Charlotte.”

Charlotte turned her head. “What’s up?”

“What if—and I’m just saying, what if—you didn’t forgive Evander? Would you have gotten together with Judd Carstairs?”

Charlotte turned to fully face her. “You’ve been mentioning Judd a lot lately.”

“Have… have I?” Lilith quickly turned away, feigning interest in the view outside the tent. “I haven’t mentioned him that much.”

Charlotte smiled, seeing right through her but choosing not to comment. “Even if I didn’t end up with Evander, I wouldn’t have gotten together with Judd.”

“Why not?” Lilith asked, confused. “Is he not a good guy?”

“Everyone has a different definition of ‘good.’ I think he’s a good guy, but in the context of a friendship, not a romance. If I had to get together with every person I thought was good, wouldn’t I have to consider dating everyone who’s ever been nice to me?”

Lilith was speechless and pouted. “Well… I never thought of it that way.”

“So, do you think he’s a good guy?”

“He’s… pretty good, I guess. Not bad, at least.”

Charlotte just smiled without saying anything.

Her silence made Lilith feel flustered. “What are you smiling about?”

“You should go for it,” Charlotte said, turning off the small lamp above her head. “I’m going to sleep.”

Just then, a message lit up Lilith’s phone screen. Her heart leaped into her throat when she saw it. For the first time, she was too nervous to even think of a reply.

【When are you returning my jacket?】

She took a deep breath, composing herself before finally typing back: 【Tomorrow.】

When no reply came from Judd, she finally managed to fall asleep.

Charlotte’s eyelashes fluttered. “Shane died, and Wesley was in a bad way, so I thought I’d take him camping to help him relax…”

She let out a soft hiss and forced a smile. “I was afraid it would upset him.”

“And you weren’t afraid of upsetting me?”

Charlotte frowned. “Are you unappeasable?”

Evander paused for several seconds, his nose almost touching hers, his warm breath fanning across her cheek. “How do you plan to appease me?”

She placed a feather-light kiss on the corner of his lips, a touch as fleeting as a dragonfly on water, but it was enough to make Evander freeze.

“Like that. Is that enough?” she asked, pulling back half an inch, her voice as soft as a feather stroking his heart.

His eyes darkened instantly. His throat bobbed, and the hand on the back of her neck tightened unconsciously.
