"Mom!"
Conrad caught Annette just before she could fall. He shot Wiona a worried look. "Are you alright?"
Wiona shook her head. "I'm fine. Please, just take her back now. She's been through so much lately, and today has been one emotional hit after another. I'm really scared she'll collapse for good. Please, hurry and get her home."
Conrad picked up his mother, nodding at Wiona. "Alright. I'll go now. Wiona, I'll have Peter and the others make sure you get home safely."
Without another word, Conrad turned and called out for Peter. "Send people down the mountain right away. Find Devin and Joe's bodies. I need to see them, whether they're alive or dead."
Owen stood by, hesitating, like he wanted to say something. Wiona spoke up first. "He fell from the cliff on his own. I can vouch for that."
Owen pressed a hand to his injured chest, his tone heavy. "The man was a true villain. He deserved what he got, but I hope everything happened just as you said."
Conrad's voice was steady. "Mr. Bishop, if you have any questions, come find me directly. Peter, you and Nikolai and Drake, make sure Wiona gets home. I'm heading back now."
Then Conrad cradled Annette and left in a hurry, heading down toward the estate.
As soon as he was gone, Wiona slumped against Molly for support. Truthfully, the pain in her pelvis was nearly unbearable at this point. Every step sent a sharp, stabbing ache through her lower belly. Tears kept threatening to spill from her eyes, but she kept forcing them back. Once Conrad was out of sight, she let herself sink to the ground.
Molly panicked. "Wiona, are you alright? Are you in pain?" She completely forgot about being formal. Mason had just been taken away, and now all she cared about was Wiona.
Wiona's eyes were red and her face slick with sweat. When Nikolai and Drake hurried over, she lifted a trembling finger to her lips. "It’s okay," she whispered. "Annette already fainted, and Conrad is hurt. I'm just a bit worn out. There's no need to worry him right now. But honestly, I can't walk. Could you get a stretcher or something? Otherwise, I can't make it home."
She wasn't trying to be a hero, just deciding what mattered most in the moment.
