"Hahaha, we were just kidding!"

Hannah, pastries still in hand, practically skipped over to Juniper. In her rush, she shoved past Shanley so hard he tilted heavily to the left.

"Yes, of course, just joking!" Miranda quickly followed, her face beaming. But as she walked past, she shoved Shanley in the opposite direction with an unmistakable look of disdain.

Shanley swayed like a weighted punching bag—first left, then right.

He sat rigidly on the sofa, watching the three generations of women act like best friends, his expression incredibly sour. Clearly, he was the spare part in this family.

"Hannah, Miranda..." After exchanging warm greetings, Juniper's expression turned serious. "There's something I need to tell you, and I hope you can understand."

"What is it, sweetheart? You look so serious!" Hannah's smile vanished. She exchanged a worried glance with Miranda before focusing entirely on the girl. "Don't be afraid. Just tell us. Whatever it is, we've got your back."

"Absolutely," Miranda nodded firmly.

"I... might have to kill Shanley," Juniper said softly but with utter seriousness.

"What?"

The pastries slipped right through Hannah's fingers, her aged face dropping in absolute shock.

Kill Shanley? She said they'd have her back, but this was a bit much!

"Well, this..."

Hearing the declaration, the cup in Miranda's hand violently shook.

"Juniper." Miranda stood up abruptly, shooting her son a lethal glare. "Did he do something to you? Did he bully you?"

"No." Shanley shook his head.

"If you didn't, why would she want you dead?" Miranda scoffed. "Get over here right now and apologize to her."
