"Miranda..."
"Just let her have her fun," Shanley murmured, stepping up beside Juniper with a helpless smile. "This is just how my mother shows she cares."
An hour later, his grandmother and Miranda had practically filled the entire living room with their offerings.
"Take a look, sweetheart. If there's anything you don't absolutely love, we'll replace it immediately," his grandmother said happily.
"I love it all. Thank you, Grandpa Kent, Grandma, Mr. Schwartz, Miranda," Juniper said, trying not to let the sheer glare of the diamonds blind her.
Now she understood why Shanley's default method of wooing involved throwing money at things. It was a family tradition.
"You've been through so much lately, Juniper," Miranda said, her eyes turning red as she squeezed Juniper's hand. "When we heard you went missing, we were pacing the floors, completely useless. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep. I just prayed and prayed, and finally, you're back."
A tear escaped Miranda's eye. Juniper gently hugged her. "I'm so sorry for making you worry."
"How are your parents doing?" his grandmother interjected. "I heard your father needs a specific medication, and the cure is hard to find."
"Yes," Juniper nodded, opting for honesty. "But I'll find a way to cure him."
"That's a relief," the older woman sighed. "You two don't need to worry about the engagement details. Miranda and I will handle everything. Once your parents are fully recovered, our families can officially meet."
"Whatever you think is best," Juniper agreed obediently. Then, remembering the looming threat, she added, "But when you all go out, please take extra security. Shanley's identity has been exposed, and we don't know when Corvus Thorne might strike again."
"He'd dare try?" Miranda flared up instantly, jumping to her feet. "If that monster shows his face to ruin things again, Hayden will kill him!"
Hayden blinked. "Huh?"
Juniper and Shanley exchanged a bewildered look.
